Observations and Anecdotal Information
Myrtle essential oil produces 2 chemotypes. This oil is the cineole chemotype, also known as Red Myrtle. When inhaled, it helps one to reclaim emotional balance and mental composure. It is a calming and sedative oil, dissolving the feelings of anger, anxiety, stress, despair, worry, and tension. It is especially helpful for those with eating disorders and hypochondriac tendencies; it eases the fear of illness.
Myrtle has long been used as a hormone balancer; it is helpful for all pelvic disorders, menstrual imbalances, uterine and prostate issues. It can be used effectively for treating bladder infections, and can be diluted and taken internally for that purpose. It is also an effective respiratory tonic, easing breathing and opening the breathing passages for bronchitis, sinus and respiratory infections, and smoker’s cough.
