Yuzu essential oil is a happy aroma, very uplifting when inhaled. It helps one establish healthy boundaries. It strengthens the mind and brings focus and clarity. In natural perfumery, it is used in sacred perfumes, citrus notes, colognes, high class florals, culinary perfumes, and chypres. Blends with calamus, or petitgrain sur fleurs.
Observations and Anecdotal Information
Yuzu has been used for over 1200 years for medicinal and culinary use in both China and Japan.
Japanese hot springs “yuzu baths” are still taken in the winter, and especially on winter solstice, to insure health, wealth, and prosperity in the coming year. The steaming hot water opens the peel and enables the healing essential oils to be released into the air and water, making a beautiful aromatic bath experience. The oil has a smoothing effect on the skin, increases circulation, and boosts the immune system to ward off colds and flu.
The unique aroma is recognizably different from other citrus oils. It diffuses to abolish molds and bacteria in the air, and to add a smooth beautiful note to any room. Added to blends, yuzu harmonizes and refines the aroma.
With its high antibacterial and antioxidant properties, Yuzu is used internally in Korea as a remedy for the common cold. It is used topically to treat rashes and itching, to rejuvenate aging and maturing skin, and to smooth the complexion. It makes a beautiful addition when added to skin cremes and spray toners.
