The aroma of Eucalyptus smithii essential oil carries a strong, fresh eucalyptus note. It is tolerated well by children who may be overwhelmed by other eucalyptus species oils. It does not have a tendency to burn the eyes when diffused, unlike some of the stronger oils.
Eucalyptus smithii has a stimulating effect on the mind and body. It relieves depression and anxiety when inhaled or applied topically. When inhaled, it also has a stimulating effect on white blood cells, causing them to increase action to remove toxic infections from the blood stream.
Eucalyptus smithii essential oil is known to adapt to biorhythms. It can have a simulating effect in the morning and a sedating effect at night. Energetically, it has a direct effect on the heart, lung, and pericardium meridians, promoting balance and energy.

Observations and Anecdotal Information
Eucalyptus smithii essential oil is considered the most mild of eucalyptus oils. It has a gentle effect when used topically on the skin, making this a good choice for application to skin rashes, acne, and break outs.
It can help stimulate a quick recovery from colds and infections, and can boost the immune system when traveling on airplanes, or otherwise exposed to contagious diseases.
Eucalyptus smithii is a muscle relaxant and makes a wonderful massage oil for muscles and joints. It has mild pain relieving properties, and stimulates circulation, and the removal of toxicity and lactic acid build-up in muscles.
It also opens breathing passages and clears nasal congestion and sinuses. For this purpose, it can be inhaled, or compressed with a hot washcloth over sinuses, throat, and chest. See this link for instructions on how to apply a compress.
On a personal note, I know of Massage Therapists who find that even placing one drop of Eucalyptus smithii on the head cradle will bring their client's into a state of relaxation.
