Observations and Anecdotal Information
Vitex essential oil comes from an herbal medicinal that has been in use for over 2,000 years. It is a powerful heart tonic, helping to strengthen the heart and cardiovascular system.
It is best known for its wonderful hormone balancing properties. It is helpful for women with symptoms of PMS or menopause, and helps with moodiness, bloating, painful or irregular periods, and water retention. Vitex balances estrogen and progesterone
production, and can help balance hormone production after the use of birth control pills.
It can be used safely through the third month of pregnancy to prevent miscarriage. After 3 months, it may cause premature milk production. It is also helpful for men, as it regulates hormone production and enhances pituitary function.
It has been found to relieve pain and reduce inflammation associated with fibrocystic disease. This oil is a true tonic oil, and can be used for long periods of time without creating non-beneficial effects.
