Mercury Retrograde & How it Affects You

What is “Mercury Retrograde”?
Mercury is going to go retrograde from March 23rd through April 15th, 2018.

If you were to study the movement of planet Mercury, you would see where the planet appears to slow down, then stop, and begin to move backwards (retrograde). This phenomena happens like clockwork three times a year.  Yet that is not what is actually happening.  The entire process is just an illusion as the planet never really moves backwards. It continues to move forward, just at a slower pace.

The information and energetics offered from the Astrology community implies that when Mercury goes retrograde there will be opportunities to be frustrated with all forms of communication, there may be possible delays in travel, and it is highly encouraged to delay the signing of any contracts during this time.

There are many questions we may ask ourselves whenever this event comes into our awareness. For instance: 1) Is it possible to communicate with anyone without experiencing a misunderstanding? 2) Is this really the worst time to be asking for a raise?  3) Should I reschedule signing the contract for the purchase of my new house??

While I’m sure the astrology community means well when providing information about what the planet Mercury may represent in our lives (and many sites do offer that it is only as bad as you allow it to be), unfortunately, it is taken so seriously that many people go into some level of anxiety whenever they hear the words “Mercury is going retrograde”.  The information becomes a form of fear-based expression many will 'own' as their personal truth.

Question: How many years did you experience your life without knowing that there was a planet that would effect all forms of verbal, written and electronic expression, and that we should handle such forms of communication with extreme care and forethought?

Wouldn’t it be in our basic human skills of compassion and kindness to always look for ways to communicate with love, harmony, and respect at all times, whether Mercury is going retrograde - or not?  And wouldn’t it be in our benefit to be flexible and to ‘go with the flow’ whenever we decide to travel?

There was a time that I, too, wholeheartedly believed in the Mercury Retrograde program.  I would feel the anxiety bubbling up in anticipation of it’s arrival. I would look at my calendar and see what I should take care of now, or put off till after it was over; and yes, I even used it as a form of excuse when computers acted up or communication with someone broke down.  And then one day I’d had enough. I was done with allowing one planet to rule my life for three weeks, three times a year.   

What did I do?
I made a conscious choice to change the conditioning of that belief to one of releasing the Mercury Retrograde programming to the ethers.  Anything we chose to believe, becomes our reality.  It doesn’t matter what the belief is - it becomes our reality.

Did my belief get tested? Absolutely!  One of my biggest moments was when I sold my first store. I remember sharing with a a friend the exact day I would be signing the store over to the new owner.  My friends eyes became enlarged, and she exclaimed in panic that I should reschedule immediately! She expressed how this day was not a good time to be signing contracts as Mercury was going to be in full retrograde.  She eagerly encouraged me to reschedule it a few weeks later, or the whole contractual agreement could blow up in my face!

I will admit, I became entangled in the energy of her fear, and the passion of what was her truth. Even though I had already been living my life without following the story belonging to “Mercury Retrograde’, I had every intention of leaving her home and making the phone call to reschedule.  While it was confusing to my inner knowing to do so, I did not want to mess up my contractual agreement!  I then walked outside to my car, took a deep breathe, and said to myself “what the heck just happened?!”  In that moment, I knew it was her belief, her fear.  It did not belong to me.  I then took a moment to intuitively “check in” with my higher power, and received an absolutely joyous “yes!” that the day I had chosen was the perfect day to sign over the store.  And I was also guided to ask for more money then I had originally planned”.

What did I do?  Well, you can be assured I did not change the date - I left it as was originally arranged; and, I changed the sale price as per guidance.  The day arrived, and not only was it the most beautiful sunny day to sign the papers, the prospective owner did not even question the price I was requesting for the purchase of the store.  She even exclaimed that the sale price was extremely fair.  Then we both joyously signed the agreement, feeling the presence of love and angels all around us, and toasted to the both of us and our new beginnings.

Whatever You Feed - You Breed
It is all too easy for us to get caught up in any condition of societal programming. Have you heard the saying, “whatever you feed - you breed”.  If you feed into your reality that you should walk on eggshells whenever Mercury goes retrograde, you can be assured the Universe will respond by providing many possibilities so that you experience ‘walking on eggshells’.  Wouldn’t it be easier to feed and breed harmony, love and ease into communications - not only during Mercury retrograde, but every day?!?

It doesn’t matter how the planets are aligned, each day is an opportunity to explore the power of who we be and how we relate to the world.  Are you ready to change the old programs into one that benefits your life and all of mankind - with ease, joy and glory?
